According to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Labor Day weekend results in the most fatalities each year than any other holiday. Approximately 187 people were killed on Ohio roads between 2000 and 2010, during Labor Day weekends. Over that same decade, that’s 23 more than both the 164 people killed in crashes during the 4th of July weekends and 164 people also killed during Thanksgiving weekends.
In an effort to prevent DUI accidents and fatalities during this Labor Day weekend through Monday, Ohio State Highway Patrol plan to double DUI checkpoints throughout the state. Tonight you can expect at least two checkpoints from 8pm to 12am. The first of these situated at U.S. 24 and County Boulevard in Maumee. The second set at Broadway Avenue and Baxter Avenue in Cleveland.
An Ohio DUI arrest can lead to serious consequences. Probably the most notable being the expensive monetary costs. You can better spend your money trying to fight these accusations by hiring an experienced criminal defense lawyer. It may save you from long-term costs associated with your arrest, including problems gaining or transferring employment due to background checks. Especially in today’s competitive business world, avoiding having a criminal record is crucial.
In Ohio, DUI’s are called OVI’s or Operating Vehicle Under the Influence. There are several types include first OVI, second OVI, third OVI, underage OVI, drugged driving (OVID) and more. Ohio OVI penalties associated with an arrest vary depending on severity of the crime, but can include administrative license suspension, tarnishment of your criminal record and hefty court fees.
